Melinda Young
A fascination with the narrative evoked by objects fuels Melinda Young’s exhibition work, which embraces ornamentation, pattern, colour and surface texture. For her, everything is precious, even the ephemeral - it is the story behind it - that marker of individual or shared time, place and experience that creates meaning and value.
Her surroundings provide continual inspiration and materials for her work, from the things she finds on the ground to architecture, the landscape and the social condition of the body. She enjoys making work that responds to a theme or purpose, as it pushes her work to unexpected and exciting places. Her exhibition works often take the form of small colour studies, each having the potential to tell a range of stories.
